Anonymous is the name given to the collective of international ‘hacktivists’ who have launched cyber attacks against many government organisations or large corporations. While hackers are often believed to be inherently ‘bad’, Anonymous has been described as ‘digital Robin Hoods’ and ‘freedom fighters’.
I’ve focused my remediation on the idea of anonymity which surrounds Anonymous, and more specifically the idea that they could be any person around us. The internet has allowed people to share their political beliefs and act upon them freely and anonymously, and Anonymous (and various other groups) have used that to their advantage. Despite the negative stigma, the people within Anonymous have used their skills and platforms to make a difference online. My favourite part? These people could be from any walk of life, coming together to stand united.
