We Are The Future is a collection of interviews with people aged between 18 and 25, where we discuss the future in relation to ourselves and the world around us. A new interview with a new person will be posted each week, so watch this space. If you’re interested or you have ideas or feedback, contact me via Twitter or my Contact page.
I’m sick of hearing that people have “lost hope” for this generation – it’s bullshit. Our generation is the best yet. We’ve been given more knowledge than any other before us, and we are going to make some amazing things with it. We are going to build the future we want. In fact, we are the future.
My name is Dayle Beazley, and I’m a 19-year-old Creative Writing and Journalism student, and I know that I’m going to make a change in this world. I hope to get into editing and publishing, but I would also like to be a journalist at some stage. There are so many fucked up things happening in the world every single day, and we just ignore it. Often, people meddle with stories so much and take things out of context, leaving audiences with something completely different.
At the beginning of 2017, as a scared Journalism student, it was hard looking at the strange state of the world and news and saying “yes, I want to be a part of it.” I felt like a bit of a dick. I don’t want to add to the lies and the chaos that is mainstream news. Now, as a second year Journalism student, I’ve realised now that I want to be thrown in there, and I want to make a change. Sure, I can’t change water to wine and all that fun stuff, but I can make a change to someone’s life. I can inform them of what’s going on, and I can give them all the information in order for them to establish their own opinions.
But that’s just me.
I’m so lucky to have so many intelligent, like-minded people around me, and it makes me excited for the future that we are all building together. I never thought that I would be surrounded by so many amazing people. But my generation truly is phenomenal – every single person has a goal, and a dream, and a struggle to get there. But we will get there.
That’s what has inspired me to start We Are The Future – I want to know all the people who are going to make a difference in this world. I want to know what they want to do, why they want to do it, and I want to watch them grow. I want to document it and share it with the world. After all, we are in this together.
